 PRESS RELEASES:

Pre-tourney press release by Monaco:

Monaco are on a role this season and hope to carry our division success into the Ron Bacardi Crown Jewel of Monaco Tournament.  We have just overhauled our backline due to the thrashing by Arsenal in the Beckenbauer Tournament.  I am hoping to get some players fit by the Tournament.  We are still planning on landing another 1-2 big impact signings before the tourney starts.  Jean Arnaud will be defending the nets.  The defense will be led my France stars Thuram, and Djetou.  Mihalovic stated that he wants nothing less than winning the Player of the Tourney, here at his club home of Monaco.  Henry and Trezeguet look to increase their performance to get a starting chance.  Look out Paris SG,  we are not going to let you knock us out of our tourney.

Pre-tourney press release for Sparta Praha:

My squad are going in to the tournament in very high spirits after a few wins in a row, and progression through the Beckenbauer tournament. We are hoping for at least a Semi Final finish. Michal Caloun will be a key figure in my team, being as solid as ever between the sticks. Also, 18-year-old Tomas Rosicky is definitely coming of age after rising through the youth ranks. My main man up front will be new boy Andy Cole, I think he will score a few goals and (hopefully) cause a couple of upsets!

Pre-tourney press release for Barcelona

The lads are in a positive mood after being informed about the Ron Bacardi Tournament,  they are looking forward to pitting themselves against the cream of talent from all over Europe .I am hoping to see good things from my captain De La Pena and midfield playmaker Zidane.  I also intend to give run outs to some of my up and coming youngsters as well. As for rivals, well every team in the competition is a rival and we are not really fussed who we play.  I think we are in with a shout of progressing quite far, and I have just told my players to go out and enjoy themselves.

Pre-tourney press release for Parma:

"Our squad looks in fine shape for the tournament, and it gives manager William Mackenzie (ex-Bologna Super-star and manager) time to assess his squad and decide on positions that need to be strenghtened before next season. Juventus will be a hard match to win, as William knows from his time with Bologna, but he believe his Parma team can achieve almost anything. The whole squad looks forward to the tournament so well organised by Monaco"

Press release for Bayern Munich

Gerald Sindstat reports:

The mighty Bayern Munich will be up against German rivals, Bayer Leverkusen, in the first round of the 2001 Ron Bacardi Crown Jewel of Monaco tournament.  I managed to grab a short interview with Bayern Manager, the very suave, witty, intelligent and sexy Mark Crawshaw, to find out the mood in the Bayern (concentration) camp.
Here's what he had to say:

GS: So. What of the season so far?
MC: Well! We've got a terrible disciplinary record, quite possibly the worst  in the whole league. I've had 21 players sent off already, this season. Many of those were dismissed for sliding in with the studs of their Adidas Nazi Storm-Trooper Jackboots Showing. Naturally, this has meant heavy squad rotation is the order of the day, and I have very rarely been granted the opportunity to field the same team in consecutive matches. It's been a very mixed season. Were mid-table in the league, but have reached the semi-final stages of both the Cruyff Cup, and Beckenbauer Tournament, which is a fine testament to the players. You've got to remember, Gerald, that were a young team, and I'm a young manager, still learning my trade (Copyright David O Leary 1999-2001), but you can see the kind of squad I'm trying to build here in Munich.

GS: I see! What of your first round opponents?
MC: My players are looking forward to the match against Beery Lederhosen. We are confident that our Teutonic arrogance will be greater than their Teutonic arrogance. Besides, they're a bunch of Bratwurst sucking, Nancy boys. If we don't overcome them using chemical warfare if necessary, you can be sure that many of my players will get the bullet, literally.

GS: Who do you see as your main rivals in this competition?
MC: Arsenal seems to be the team to beat, but I have a special plan should we be drawn against them at anytime.
GS: What's that?
MC: We have our own arsenal of Panzer tanks, ready and waiting, which we will use to mow them down! Resistance is futile!

GS: Hmmm! So! If you don't win - through fair means or foul, who would you like to win?
MC: I think Monaco is a very fine team. Their Manager, Richard Thomas, is a  fine tactician, a good footballing coach and, I am informed, very popular with fine chicks. This could be because he is incredibly well endowed in the trouser department. (Grovel! Grovel!) I also have utmost respect for Leeds United and would dearly like to see Bayern play against either of those teams in the final of this most prestigious of tournaments (And even more grovelly tongue right down the back of trousers type sentiments).

GS: Well. There we have it. Best wishes in the tournament, Mark.
MC: Thanks, Gerald, By the way, Is it true that you and two friends were caught masturbating in an adult cinema, in Soho, London, sometime in the early 80's? (True story!!!)

GS: Erm! This is Gerald Sindstat reporting from Munich, Germany. Guten nacht!

Press release from Real Madrid

After a great start to this season my team has gone down hill due to some manager errors. ie selling Roberto Carlos and Davor Suker (what was I playing at?) I hope to pick up the campaign for the final weeks of the season and push Arsenal and Kosice for the A1 title. I hope to play weel enough in the tournament to progress far enough to win my entry fee back. Any more will be a bonus.  I would like to play Arsenal in the final if I got there as they are going to beat me in the league and would like to take some glory from my friend Jon Minall.
Good luck to all!!! :)

Press release from Arsenal

I feel this season has gone fairly well so far. I still feel there is room for improvement in the team though, as the Cruyff Cup Semi Final Vs Bayern Munich showed. Anyway, there is still a long way to go in Season 3 yet!
As for the Monaco Tournament, I feel it an honour to be playing in such a massive campaign. Monaco have been overturned into a great side under Richard Thomas, and this looks set to be a great Tournament to celebrate Monaco’s welcome promotion to Division A1.

Press release from Leeds United:

With a few weeks left of the season our main objective has to be survival in A2. Since my arrival as manager of the club we have managed only 1 win in 4 games, and quite frankly thats toilet ! I would have sacked myself but im clinging on to the excuse that the ongoing...ongoing tranfser saga which saw Blanc go to Monaco and Shearer and Pignol still stuck on the Monaco books has been a serious problem that has not helped.

As for the Ron Bacardi tournament, being drawn against such good oposition as Kosice will provide a real test for my players, and if we can get our shit together and avoid dropping into the abyss we can approach this game in the right frame of mind and give them a run for thier money in what im sure will be an entertaining game with both sides giving thier all for a place in the last eight

Press Release from KOSICE:

Kosice will enter the tourney on a massive high after an incredible debut season in the top Division, which now looks like it should end in at least a top 3 finish, and there is still an outside chance of snatching the championship from Arsenal's, iron like grasp!! I believe that Kosice has been the success story that every lower league club hopes for, when promoted from the 3rd division to the 1st at the beginning of this season, the manager, Kevin O'Connor told the clubs fans that consolidation was his aim for the season, to stay up and try to improve the squad, but what we are witnessing this season has exceeded all expectations.....
A message to teams who could come up this year: It can be done!! Kosice aim to win this tourney and will be disappointed if they do not reach the semi finals at least, we feel we have as good a chance as anyone, if we get a good draw. Leeds will be formidable opponents in the 1st round, but they are not Arsenal, who lets face it, EVERYBODY wanted to avoid.....
Club captain Martin Sevela has continued to lead by example this season, and much of the clubs success is put down to him and his CD partner Francesco Colonnese. Everyone at the club is willing Sevela not to hang up his boots at the end of the season, and carry on for a couple more years at the top..... Key men are likely to be Sevela, Colonnese, Ricken and Ortega, but a young product of the Kosice youth system will be on show during the tourney. ST Kevin O'Connor will play and will be hoping to start his senior career with some goals..... watch this space!!

Press Release for Bayer Leverkusen:

Hello!! Bayer Leverkusen are looking for the upset victory. We are currently entertaining many offers for players. We have a solid core of players which I (manager Chloe Madison) am looking to build on. We have secured our place in the top division. This will be a great tourney to let some of my younger players make a push for first team action.

Press Release for Tottenham:

After having a rough time of it this season we are looking to salvage some merit in this tournament. However getting a few long-term injuries including both keepers and seeing who we are up against in the first round we can honestly say we are only really playing for prides sake, and are buliding for the future. Club captain Andreas Moller - "it will be a very tough tournament with some of Europe's elite clubs and on our day we can compete against the best of them. I just hope we dont pick up and more injuries before it starts'
